A Thanksgiving Celebration Like No Other
Dedication ceremony, then Thanksgiving meals to be distributed
A family here in central Pennsylvania will be celebrating Thanksgiving in a new home this year. Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area will dedicate a new home in the Allison Hill section of Harrisburg just in time for the holiday. The dedication ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 20th, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the home located at 1302 Bailey Street, between 13th and 14th Streets.
Members of the Heather Roberts family will be the guests of honor as they will receive the keys to their new home. The family contributed more than 350 sweat equity hours toward the completion of the home. This dedication will also recognize the group behind this project, as this was a Women Build for Habitat for Humanity. Members of the Women Build committee and their volunteers did most of the fundraising and construction on the project.
“Habitat’s goal of eliminating poverty housing is something the women on this Women Build understand,” said Habitat Executive Director Eve Wachhaus. “The Heather Roberts family now has a safe, affordable home in which to live. This home will remind us to be thankful for what we have and to remember those not as fortunate.”
The new home has four bedrooms and has just over 1,200 square feet in living space and through Habitat for Humanity, the Roberts family will also have a no-interest, no-cost loan on the property.
The Central PA Food Bank will also be on hand to welcome the family as they stock the new home’s kitchen with food. Central PA Food Bank has been dedicated to ending hunger in the Central PA area for more than 20 years. Following the dedication ceremony on Saturday, members of the Habitat staff will team up with the Food Bank to provide complete Thanksgiving meals to other Habitat families in the area.
The Susquehanna Chapter of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America will present the family with an embroidered sampler and each member of the family will receive a quilt courtesy of LeTort Quilt Guild.
Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area is an ecumenical ministry that welcomes all people dedicated to the cause of eliminating poverty housing.
