Outstanding Individual 2006Heather FutatoHeather has been volunteering for Habitat for Humanity for more than 3 years. She is very active in our Home Repairs program and volunteers 1 or 2 days a week. In addition Heather took on a leadership role in the Women’s Build. She was a team leader and also was the site manager when the Habitat project manager could not be there. Heather has also devoted time to some of our special events and projects. She leads a very active life. She is a wife and mother and also volunteers each week at Bethesda Mission.
Outstanding Religious Group 2006Paxton Presbyterian ChurchPaxton Presbyterian Church actively involves its congregation in the mission of Habitat for Humanity. The congregation provides not only financial resources but also many volunteer hours. The church along with 10 other Presbyterian Churches sponsored a house in 2002-2003. They also participate in the aluminum can project. Members of Paxton Presbyterian actively volunteer each month on the construction site and also provide committee leadership.
Outstanding Organization 2006Rotary Club of HarrisburgOver the years The Rotary Club of Harrisburg has provided financial support as well as volunteer hours. Members of the club have done everything from tearing out carpet to landscaping to painting. They were instrumental in sponsoring the house of Fanny Baumgartner on Zarker Street in 2003. The club took a leadership role in preparing and supporting our warehouse yard sale. The Rotary Club has been an excellent source of leadership and financial resources. Through their membership we have had leadership in committees and our Board of Directors. They are looking forward to working on the warehouse when we begin to rehab the building.
Outstanding Corporation 2006Brinjac EngineeringTerry Reed introduced to our Habitat a wonderful source of volunteers when he brought employees of Brinjac Engineering to our building site. Brinjac provides their employees with an opportunity to volunteer at Habitat during the regular workweek. Each year Brinjac designates a week for volunteers to come and swing a hammer or use a paintbrush. They were instrumental in rebuilding porches on Zarker Street as well as working on our houses on 13th Street. They have been volunteering for more than 5 years.
Young Leader Award 2006Signe HenkelThis year’s recipient of the Young Leader’s Award is Signe Henkel. She is a junior at Messiah College and has been President of the College Chapter of Habitat for the last two years. Messiah College has been volunteering for our Habitat for more than 6 years. For the last two years, Signe has helped the group to move to the next level with us. They are involved in the Youth Build; have students serving on that committee, and leadership at the Board level. Signe has worked closely with our affiliate to bring other volunteer opportunities to our building sites. She also has help get students involved beyond the construction site by helping with Special Events and projects. Besides attending classes, Signe also works part time on campus at the Agape Center.
Chuck Dorsey Award 2006Kathy WellsOur Chuck Dorsey Award recipient is Kathy Wells, Director of Christian Education at Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church. Kathy is a long standing volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, participating in affiliates wherever she has lived. Kathy has been an active participate on the construction site especially with our recent Women’s Build and has also involved members of her congregation in volunteering. Kathy has held many leadership positions in our Habitat. She has served as a member of our Board of Directors for six years and was also Secretary of the Board. Her greatest gift to our affiliate is the growth and development of the Family Support Committee, which also launched programs for mentors and for youth. Kathy provided much support to this affiliate in many, many ways. |
