Fox 43 and Wells Fargo Team Up for Home Repair Project

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area has announced that television station WPMT/Fox 43 and Wells Fargo Bank will be partnering together on a home repair project that will include five homes in Harrisburg’s uptown section.  The local Habitat will kick off the build the first week of October in recognition of World Habitat Day, October 3, 2011.

The four-week project, called Fox 43’s Habitat Home Repair Project, will include major repairs to homes alongJefferson Street in the city.  Repairs will include roofing, repairing walls, porches, windows and several other similar projects.  One of the homes will receive a much-needed wheel chair ramp.  The homeowners in this area will perform more than 30 hours of sweat equity (Habitat volunteer work) to be a part of the project.

Combined, both Fox 43 and Wells Fargo will supply more than 700 hours of volunteer time to complete the project. Habitat for Humanity began its Critical Home Repair Program in 2002 and, to date, has assisted more than 195 families here in Central Pennsylvania.

“At Wells Fargo we have enjoyed a nearly 20 year relationship with Habitat for Humanity and our local team members are excited to be working on this project in Harrisburg,” said Brendan Flores,  Capitol district manager for Wells Fargo. “We believe in doing what’s right for our communities and you could not ask for better partners than Habitat for Humanity and Fox 43. “

Wells Fargo will provide financial support for the project while Fox 43 has agreed to provide sponsorship advertisement, marketing and promotion towards the repair of the homes owned by low income families.  Wells Fargo’s part will be a $50,000 donation and continues a long list of sponsorship projects for the bank with Habitat for Humanity over the last several years.

“These repairs will go a long way towards keeping these families in their homes,” said Eve Wachhaus, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area.  “Both Fox 43 and Wells Fargo understand how important this project will be to families unable to make these necessary improvements on their own.”

This specific project, Fox 43’s Habitat Home Repair Project, will also help Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area continue to make the public aware of services offered by the non-profit organization through the coverage provided by Fox 43.

In preparation for their coverage, Fox 43 spent time with homeowners and got a look at the properties involved. Their coverage from that initial visit will be used during reports on the project.  Coverage of the work and the work itself will run through the end of October.

Habitat for Humanity International will mark a major milestone Oct. 3rd when it dedicates its 500,000th house in Maai Mahiu, Kenya, and begins construction on its 500,001st house in Paterson, NJ.  Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area is among the more than 2,300 Habitat affiliates worldwide that have made this milestone possible, having built 57 new homes in the past 25 years.

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area is an ecumenical ministry that welcomes all people dedicated to the cause of eliminating poverty housing. Through volunteer labor and tax deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds new homes, rehabs and repairs homes and provides educational workshops.
