ReStore Celebrates 2nd Year

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area ReStore, located at 800 Paxton St, Harrisburg, will celebrate its second anniversary during the week of August 26-29. The actual date of the ReStore’s birthday is August 23rd, but the store will be closed on that day, as it falls on a Sunday.

“We were looking at the date and thinking we wanted to have a little celebration, and then theidea came that we could just have a week-long birthday party,” said ReStore Manager Lindsay Kirkwood. “Most people I know try to stretch their birthdays over a few a days, so we thought the store deserved the same treatment!”

There are events planned for every day the ReStore is open (between 10 and 5):

  • Wednesday – Special Prize Giveaway
  • Thursday – Open Volunteer Day (wear closed-toed shoes!)
  • Friday – Cookout with free food for shoppers (while supplies last)
  • Saturday – Return of “ReStore Roulette” (aka “The Wheel of Deals”)
  • All week – Vote (in store or online) for best DIY door project

In addition to helping fund Habitat’s mission, the ReStore has kept over 1,000,000 lbs of material out of the landfill in the past two years. Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area’s goal is to eliminate poverty housing through new builds, rehabs and owner-occupied critical home repairs.  More than 350 families have been helped since the local affiliate was founded in 1986.
